  General informationOur nurses are certified in infusions.
Gastroenterology of Southern Indiana now offers compassionate, personalized care to patients needing infusion services.  An Infusion Therapy Center (ITC) is a specialized area designed to make patients comfortable during their infusion or IV therapy.  Our experienced infusion nurses use the latest treatment regiments and techniques to deliver antibiotics or other drugs; electrolytes; or nutritional solutions into the bloodstream or tissue.

Other treatments may include therapeutic removal of blood or blood components and training and support for patients and caregivers undergoing at-home infusion therapy. With our goal of making on-site  treatment as comfortable as possible, we take extra care with each step to creating a positive experience, including providing:

  • Four state-of-the-art, semi-private infusion bays with comfortable recliner chairs
  • WiFi access
  • Individual flat screen television in every bay
  • Snacks and beverages made available during your time with us
  • Individualized care that ensures patients and caregivers understand what to expect and feel they can get all questions answered
  • Prompt appointment scheduling

There are many medications that can be infused. Please check with us to determine if our infusion center is right for you. Some of those infusables are:

- Hydration Therapy

- IV Antibiotics

- Remicade

- Solumedrol

- Iron:
   Venofer, Ferrlecit, Iron Dextran

- Therapeutic Phlebotomy

GSI's new Infusion Therapy Center is located in our new facility at 2630 Grantline Road, New Albany Indiana and is open Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.  Appointments are required and can easily be scheduled by calling 812-206-7002 and speak with Sammye.

Where Do I Report for Treatment?

Gastroenterology of Southern Indiana is located on Grantline Road [map] just up the street from Walmart. Please report to the front desk when you arrive. After you check in, we will ask you to have a seat in the waiting area. (We make every attempt to be on time with your appointment. If you find that you have been waiting for longer than 30 minutes, please check back with a staff member at the front desk.)

What Needs to Happen Before My Treatment Begins?

A technician will escort you back to our Infusion Therapy Center and get you settled in one of our recliner chairs, then your vital signs will be checked. An IV will be placed, or your mediport will be accessed. Your nurse will check your doctor's orders and make sure your lab results are adequate for treatment.

Once everything is in place, your treatment will begin and you may receive premedications to prevent side effects such as nausea. The premedications may be given as pills or IV.

Great care is taken with each patient and their regiment.How Long Does the Actual Infusion Therapy Usually Take?

Remicade infusions can take 3-5 hours. Other infusables vary by medication and patient. Some  regimens may contain multiple medications.

Can I bring a Family Member or Friend?

You may bring one guest with you into the ITC. For the safety of our patients, visitors who are ill or who have cold symptoms should not accompany patients into the ITC.

Am I Allowed to Eat During Therapy?

We ask that you try to eat a light meal prior to your treatment. Light snacks and beverages are provided for patients.

What Should I Bring With Me?

Each Infusion Therapy Bay is equipped with a recliner chair for the patient, an upright chair for a guest, a small table and a television. Cell phones are permitted
, as are music players as long as you have headphones. Wireless Internet access is available. Blankets and pillows are provided, or you may bring your own. For your comfort, we recommend GSI Infusion Therapy Center always has a physician available.dressing in layers. Many patients bring books, knitting, drawing, etc. to help pass the time. Restrooms for patients are located in the ITC. We ask that all guests use the restrooms located in the waiting area.

What If I Need Assistance During My Therapy?

Your nurse will be present and monitor your vitals throughout your infusion. In the unlikely event you experience any adverse reactions, a physician is always available. Your ITC nurse is a great resource for questions or concerns about your treatment, nutrition, activity, what to expect, or any other concerns you may have about your care.
